I was organising a workshop on execution failures at RSS 2024, which took place in Delft; since I hadn’t been here before, I used my free time to walk around the city a bit.
On the way back, I had a connecting train through Utrecht and a few hours to spare, so I used that time to explore Utrecht as well.
Delft seemed like a nice little city. The architecture (particularly in the city center) is quite lovely, and the canals around the place have a very relaxing effect. Other than that, it felt like most other university towns, in particular quite international and easy going. The only small trouble for me was that it was very windy while I was exploring around, but that was just a minor inconvenience.
Here are my pictures of the place.
Utrecht really appealed to me as a city (at least in the short time I could spend there). Similar to Delft, it is surrounded by canals (though they are larger here), but it seemed to be a very lively city (more so than Delft), and St Martin’s Cathedral and the Dom Tower look amazing. It seems to me like a place that is worth visiting again; since I only spent a few hours there, I’m sure there are many interesting places that I wasn’t able to see.
Here are some pictures I took while I was exploring around.
