Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, July 2021

I visited Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in late July 2021 primarily to attend the Deep Learn summer school, but I was there a few extra days to explore the place, as I don’t know when I will get another chance to visit. Since this was during the COVID-19 pandemic, there were some restrictions on the island, although everyone seemed mostly relaxed about this, so the stay was very enjoyable - the people were nice, the food was really good, and I even managed to go to the beach once (although the weather was quite windy, so I couldn’t swim all that much).

Here are some photos of the island.

Elder Museum of Science and Technology

The Elder Museum of Science and Technology was the first museum I visited during my stay. The museum is mostly targetted at a younger audience, but was nevertheless interesting for me because I didn’t have a chance to visit similar museums in my youth. Particularly interesting were representations of native inhabitants of the island, but also the skeletons of various animals. Some photos from the museum are shown below.

Poema del Mar aquarium

Another place I visited was the Poema del Mar aquarium, which has a very rich exhibition of water animals. In the middle of the place, there is a room with a massive aquarium that has thousands of fish and even multiple sharks. A bonus highlight was an augmented reality mobile app that was showing flying dinosaurs - really cool!

Here are a few photos from the place.

Canarian museum

The final museum I visited was the Canarian museum. I found the mummies and skeletons in the museum to be the most interesting, so here are a couple of photos of those.
