Oslo and Stavanger, March 2026

I was going to the European Robotics Forum in Stavanger this year, where I was organising a workshop, but I was flying there from Oslo. As I hadn’t been to Oslo before, I took the chance to spend a few days there before going to Stavanger.

Luckily, the weather was quite sunny during my days in Oslo, so I could walk around and explore (even though it was quite windy and cold). I found Oslo to be a very pretty city; places that will particularly stay in my memory are the fjord, the Akershus Fortress, and the Royal Palace. I wonder how beautiful everything would look during spring / summer.

Munch museum

I obviously knew Munch’s Scream, but I was not familiar with his work in general, so I wanted to explore this a bit more (particularly because I enjoy expressionist paintings). I spent a few really good hours in the museum, which has a nice combination of both Munch’s work and that of other expressionist artists. I can definitely recommend paying the museum a visit!

There are many amazing artworks there, but here are just a few that particularly caught my eye.

I’m not gonna lie: I didn’t find Stavanger particularly interesting, i.e. it doesn’t seem to have all too much to offer (beyond the area around the port, which looks quite nice). My impression may be a little biased by the pretty bad weather though (pretty cold, extremely windy, and rainy on quite a few days; it even snowed a bit on one of the days). Still, here are a few nice photos of places there.
